According to Ayurveda, there are seven basic
elements in the human body known as the seven dhatus. They are Rasa
(lymph), Rakta (blood), Maans (muscle), Meda (fat), Asthi (bones),
Majja (nervous system) and Shukra (reproductive system). These are
present in human body in particular proportions and any change in
their equilibrium leads to diseases. Ayurvedic physicians are of the
opinion that overweight and underweight are indications that the vata,
kapha and pitta in the body are out of balance. In obese persons, meda
is nourished excessively, while other dhatus get malnourished and
kapha is accumulated. Lack of physical exercise, sleeping during
daytime, consuming fatty and sweetened food items and the wrong diet
and lifestyles, which increase Kapha are the common causes of
obesity. |

Obesity adversely affects the normal functioning of the liver,
heart and kidneys.
Obese persons are susceptible to chronic diseases like
stroke, heart diseases, high blood
pressure, liver diseases and diabetes.
Obesity hinders normal life
activity of an individual. Reduction of longevity, premature ageing,
low sex drive, poor sexual performance, unpleasant body odor,
excessive thirst, difficulty in walking, tiredness, general
disability, loss of vitality and mental problems are other adverse
effects.
The most common type of obesity is alimentary in origin. The person
eats too much or does not exercise regularly. Often the real cause of
obesity is wrong eating habits and laziness, initiated in early life,
at home. The excess amount of calories is stored as fat in the body.
There is also a natural tendency to increase weight during the middle
age, but this would be slight and gradual. Certain medicines like
steroids and antidepressants may also cause weight gain.
Panchakarma, diet control and regular exercises like yoga, jogging,
swimming, cycling can help in weight loss. Ayurvedic medicines can be
of great help in reducing the accumulated fat without any side
effects. Ayurvedic treatments for obesity concentrate in resetting the
mind-body’s ability to normalize itself by enhancing digestive fires
and regulating the storage of energy and fat. We at
Vasudeva Ayurvedic Health Resort
help you to get started on the path to permanent weight loss and to a
healthy living.
